HAIR SCHOOL TEACHES YOU HOW TO BECOME A HAIRSTYLIST. COVE ACADEMY HELPS PREPARE YOU FOR WHAT COMES NEXT.
Cove Academy is an online program for hairstyling students and recent graduates who want to feel more confident, prepared and ready to take their first steps into salon life. Because graduating with your license and feeling ready to work behind the chair are two very different things.
Self-paced. Videos + workbook + resources.
THIS ISN'T HAIR SCHOOL 2.0
We aren't here to reteach everything you've already learned.
We're here to help you connect the pieces.
The online Cove Academy program is designed to help you learn about salon life through practical lessons, real-world examples and scenarios you can think through as you go.
You’ll have access to your Cove Academy workbook and resources to help you put what you’re learning into practice and a clearer understanding of what to expect as you begin your career.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start.
You just need to be ready to learn.
Cove Academy Online helps bridge the gap between hair school and salon life.
Hair school gives you a foundation. Starting in a salon brings a whole new set of expectations, routines and relationships to learn. This program is designed to help you feel more prepared for that next step, wherever you hope to work.
We’ll cover the things that aren’t always taught in school:
-
How to find a salon that’s the right fit for you
-
How to prepare for an interview and make a strong first impression
-
What salons look for when hiring an apprentice
-
How to be proactive and support your team
-
Salon etiquette, professionalism and day-to-day expectations
-
How to work with a mentor, ask questions and use feedback
-
How to communicate with salon owners, stylists and clients
-
How to help create a welcoming client experience
You’ll also learn how to navigate the everyday parts of being an apprentice: setting up and maintaining your station, keeping shared spaces organized, staying aware of what your team needs and handling situations that may feel unfamiliar at first.
Being a hairstylist is about more than doing great hair. We’ll talk about how to begin building your professional presence, use social media with intention, share your work, write captions and start making connections with potential clients even when you’re new.
We’ll also introduce the habits that support a sustainable career, including rebooking, client retention, retail, protecting your time, setting professional boundaries and creating realistic goals for the kind of stylist and life you want to build.
Cove Academy Online is here to help you walk into salon life with more confidence, a better understanding of what’s expected and practical tools you can use as you grow.

MEET
AMANDA
With 18 years behind the chair, Amanda has experienced the hair industry from just about every angle, stylist, salon manager, independent stylist, salon owner, mentor and educator.
Before opening Cove Hair Co three years ago, Amanda spent nine years as a sole proprietor and has worked in commission salons, managed salons and built her own clientele and business from the ground up.
Today, she leads a team of eight at Cove Hair Co and has had the opportunity to hire, train and mentor multiple apprentices as they've made the transition from hair school into the salon.
Her experience in education extends beyond Cove. Amanda has taught extension education both independently and through online education courses with a leading Canadian extension brand, while continuing to mentor stylists in business, clientele building and helping stylists create sustainable careers behind the chair.
After years of working with new stylists and apprentices, Amanda continued to see the same gap: hair school teaches the foundation of becoming a hairstylist, but there is so much about working in a real salon that can only be learned through experience.
Cove Academy was created to help bridge that gap.
Amanda's goal isn't to teach new stylists everything there is to know about hair. It's to help them walk into their first salon feeling more prepared, professional and confident with a better understanding of what salon owners are looking for, how to become an invaluable member of a team and how to start building a career they're genuinely excited about.

REMEMBER
Getting hired is only the beginning
A salon apprenticeship is a learning experience and a workplace. Reliability, communication, initiative and how you support the team matter alongside your technical foundation.
The transition can be a tough stretch.
Canadian apprenticeship data shows that people may discontinue for reasons like job instability, financial pressure or personal circumstances. Choosing a salon with clear expectations and support can make a real difference in how prepared you feel.
Your income and clientele take time to build
Job Bank reports a wide wage range for hairstylists across Canada. Your schedule, employment arrangement, location and ability to build a returning clientele can all affect your earnings.
You’re building a career, not just learning services
Salon life also involves client communication, teamwork, professionalism, rebooking and showing your work. These skills can help you become a stronger apprentice and lay the groundwork for the kind of stylist you want to be.
